Hinnøya

Largest of the Lofoten Islands (see Lofoten and Vesterålen) off the north coast of Norway; area 2,198 sq km/849 sq mi. Hinnøya is Norway's largest island and lies within the Arctic Circle. It is mountainous and wooded; Moysalen (1,262 m/4,140 ft) is the highest peak. The main economic activities are fishing and tourism. Harstad, in the north of the island, is the most important town and port. There is a 13th-century church north of Harstad.
