Hinton of Bankside, Christopher, Baron Hinton of Bankside (1901–1983)

British engineer and administrator. He was chief engineer at ICI (1931–40). Subsequently he was loaned to the ministry of supply, and later went to the Atomic Energy Authority (1954–57), where he supervised the construction of Calder Hall, the first atomic power station (opened 1956). From 1957–64 Hinton was chairman of the Central Electricity Generating Board, and in 1965 was given the task of studying methods of transport co-ordination. He later worked for the World Bank.

Hinton was educated at Chippenham Grammar School and Trinity College, Cambridge University. He was knighted in 1957, and made a life peer in 1965.
