Hitachi

Japanese electrical and electronics company. It produces a range of information and telecommunications systems, electronic devices, power and industrial systems, consumer products, and scientific equipment. It also offers services in finance and travel.

The company was founded in 1910 as a small electrical repair shop and was incorporated as a joint stock corporation in 1920. By 2006–07 it had consolidated revenues of $86.8 billion, with nearly 500 overseas subsidiaries and approximately 384,000 employees worldwide.

Hitachi

City of Ibaraki prefecture, on Honshu island, Japan, about 130 km/80 mi northeast of Tokyo; population (1998 est) 197,500. The chief industry is the manufacture of electrical and electronic goods. Other industries include the mining of gold, silver, limestone, and sulphur, copper-refining, and the manufacture of wire and cement. The city's port opened in 1959.
