nitric acid

Fuming acid obtained by the oxidation of ammonia or the action of sulphuric acid on potassium nitrate. It is a highly corrosive acid, dissolving most metals, and a strong oxidizing agent. It is used in the nitration and esterification of organic substances, and in the making of sulphuric acid, nitrates, explosives, plastics, and dyes.

Whole-rock geochemistry is done by either (1) X-Ray Fluorescence for Major Elements, LOI, Zr, Y, Nb, Rb, Sr, and Ba following fusion of pulverized material with lithium borate into a glass pellet; or (2) HNO3 / HCL digestion of pulverized material followed by ICP-AES analysis for 34 elements.

Extraction designed the VS-CSP-32 media to filter out molecular acids such as HCl, H2SO4 and HNO3, acid-forming species like SO2, molecular bases such as NH3, NMP and amines, and condensable organic compounds defined as those with boiling points above 150 degrees C.
