Hodge, Charles (1797-1878)

US theologian who was a powerful advocate for conservative Presbyterian doctrine. He edited the Princeton Review for more than 40 years. His influential Systematic Theology appeared 1871-72.

Born in Philadelphia, the son of a Continental Army surgeon, he graduated from Princeton in 1815 and Princeton Theological Seminary in 1819 at which he taught from 1820.
