Hoelscher, Ulf (1942– )

German violinist. He studied with Josef Gingold and Ivan Galamian and made many tours of Europe, the USA, and the Far East, notably with the Dresden Staatskapelle. He premiered the concertos by David Kirchner (1984) and Franz Hummel (1987), both with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and Aribert Reimann's concerto for violin and cello (Montreux, 1989). He has given chamber recitals with Heinrich Schiff, Michel Béroff, and Christian Zacharias. His recordings include Shostakovich with Vishnevskaya and Rostropovitch. He was appointed professor at the Berlin Hochschule in 1987, and played the Hindemith concerto in London in 1995.
