Hof

City in Bavaria, Germany, on the River Saale, in the foothills of the Fichtelgebirge; population (1994) 52,700. It is an important railway junction, and has textile and brewing industries.

Hof was rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1823 which destroyed two-thirds of the town.
