Hoffman, Dustin (1937– )

US actor. He became popular in the 1960s with his unconventional looks, short stature, and versatility. His performance in The Graduate (1967) propelled him to stardom, and he subsequently won Academy Awards for his performances in Kramer vs Kramer (1979) and Rain Man (1988). His other films include Midnight Cowboy (1969), Little Big Man (1970), All the President's Men (1976), Tootsie (1982), and I Heart Huckabees (2004).

Among his other films are Hook (1991), Outbreak (1995), American Buffalo (1996), Sleepers (1996), Sphere (1998), and Runaway Jury (2003). He appeared on Broadway in the 1984 revival of Death of a Salesman, which was also filmed for television in 1985.
