Hoffman, Paul

Hoffman, Paul (Gray) (1891–1974)

US industrialist and government official who was an economic adviser to President Roosevelt, and later administered the Marshall Plan 1948–50 to speed economic recovery in Europe after World War II. He led the Ford Foundation 1951–53 and the United Nations development programme 1966–72.

He started his career as a salesman at Studebaker in 1910, and led the company out of bankruptcy in 1935.
