Hofmann, Peter (1944- )

German tenor. He studied in Karlsruhe and made his debut at Lübeck in 1972 as Tamino. In 1976 he sang Siegmund in Bayreuth and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in a production of the Ring. His US debut was in San Francisco in 1977, as Siegmund, and in 1980 he sang Lohengrin at the New York Metropolitan Opera House. He has sung Parsifal at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and at Salzburg. His other roles include Max, Tristan, Florestan, and Bacchus. He sang Siegmund in the Kupfer production of the Ring at Bayreuth in 1988.
