hogback

Geological formation consisting of a ridge with a sharp crest and abruptly sloping sides, the outline of which resembles the back of a hog. Hogbacks are the result of differential erosion on steeply dipping rock strata composed of alternating resistant and soft beds. Exposed, almost vertical resistant beds provide the sharp crests.
