Hog Island

Island in the Delaware River, Pennsylvania, USA. Almost uninhabited, and mostly swamp, it was converted 1917 into a shipbuilding yard to construct 50 7,500-ton freighters for carrying supplies from the USA to Europe. The yard was designed as a site for assembling and launching ships from prefabricated components from over 100 yards and factories around the USA.
