Holda

In Germanic folklore, a spirit associated with spinning and rural life generally, who rewards hard-working people and punishes the lazy. She is depicted in fairy tales as making her bed when it snows, the flakes being the bedfeathers flying about.

Jakob Grimm associated her with the ‘mother goddess’ worshipped in Germany, as reported by the Roman historian Tacitus.
