Hollreiser, Heinrich

Hollreiser, Heinrich (1913-2006)

German conductor. He held posts in Darmstadt and Mannheim before serving as principal conductor of the Bavarian State Opera 1942-45. He made his debut with the Munich Staatsoper with Beehoven's Fidelio in 1951 and conducted several premiere peformances, for example the premiere of Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress (1951).

He performed in Düsseldorf 1945-52, at the Vienna Staatsoper until 1961, and with the Deutsche Oper Berlin 1961-64. He conducted operas by Henze, Britten, and Hindemith, and was well known in Strauss. He conducted Wagner's Tannhäuser and Die Meistersinger von Nürnburg/the Mastersingers of Nuremburg at Bayreuth (making his debut in 1973). He was guest conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra from 1978.
