Holmdel| Township in Monmouth County, east-central New Jersey, 24 km/15 mi southeast of New Brunswick; population (1990) 11,500. |
| Settled in the 1630s, and known as Freehold before that name came to refer to the current borough, Holmdel was originally an centre of orchards and viticulture. It is now a growing suburb along the Garden State Parkway. AT&T Bell Laboratories, a major communications research facility, is situated here, as is the large Garden State Arts Center, with its 5,300-seat amphitheatre. |
