Holmes, Alfred (1837–1876)

English violinist and composer. With very little regular instruction he became a famous violinist, playing duets with his brother Henry (1839–1905) and later touring widely with him in Europe. He settled in Paris in 1864. He met Spohr in London and also Kassel; he was a dedicatee of Spohr's violin duos.
