Holmes, Katie

    0.07 sec.

Holmes, Katie (1978- )

US actor. Her small role in Ang Lee's acclaimed drama The Ice Storm (1997) was followed by the starring role of innocent tomboy Joey Potter in the popular television series Dawson's Creek (1998-2003). After several supporting teen roles, she proved her acting mettle as the star of Pieces of April (2003), an offbeat comedy about a dysfunctional family gathering for Thanksgiving.

Other films include supporting roles in the Michael Chabon novel adaptation Wonder Boys (2000), the supernatural thriller The Gift (2001), and Joel Schumacher's crime thriller Phone Booth (2002).

She was born and grew up in Toledo, Ohio, where she acted in productions such as Damn Yankees at Notre Dame Academy, an all-girls Catholic school. After attending a convention of the International Modeling and Talent Association in New York City, she was convinced by a talent scout to travel to Los Angeles, California, for a series of auditions. She was chosen for the lead role in the hugely successful television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but turned it down to finish school.

Early films include the horror film Disturbing Behavior (1998), the crime caper Go (1999), and Teaching Mrs Tingle (1999).
