Holmes, Ralph (1937-1984)

English violinist. After studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London and with Enescu in Paris he made his London debut in 1951, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. His US debut was at Carnegie Hall in 1966, under Barbirolli. He was heard in chamber works by Delius, Bartók, and Prokofiev, and in concertos by Berg, Shostakovich, and Schoenberg, as well as the standard repertory. In 1972 he formed a piano trio with Anthony Goldstone and Moray Welsh.
