Holy Loch

Western inlet of the Firth of Clyde, Argyll and Bute, west Scotland. Formerly a US nuclear submarine base (1961–92), it is one of the most polluted stretches of water in the world, and is being cleaned up by the Ministry of Defence.

It is feared that disturbing the contaminated sediment may cause the toxic chemicals to dissolve and be consumed by fish such as salmon and sea trout.
