Homer, Sidney (1902–1983)

US economist, broker, and author who, during the Depression, set up his own bond trading house in 1932. He joined Salomon Brothers in 1961, organized the firm's first bond research department, and retired as a partner and chief economist in 1972. He became known as ‘the Bard of Wall Street’ for his colourful treatment of usually dry economic subjects. His History of Interest Rates: 2000 BC to the Present appeared in 1963.

Born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, the son of musicians, he graduated from Harvard in 1923.
