Homerische Welt

    0.01 sec.

Homerische Welt

Operatic tetralogy by Bungert (libretto by the composer, based on Homer's The Odyssey). The four parts are: I. Kirke/Circe, first produced in Dresden, Germany, on 29 January 1898; II. Nausikaa/Nausicaa, produced in Dresden on 20 March 1901; III. Odysseus Heimkehr/The Return of Ulysses, produced in Dresden on 12 December 1896; and IV. Odysseus Tod/The death of Ulysses, produced in Dresden on 30 October 1903.

It was Bungert's attempt to create a Wagnerian cycle, but based, like Hector Berlioz's Troyens and Sergey Taneiev's Oresteia, on classical Greek subjects.
