Homilius, Gottfried August (1714-1785)

German composer and organist. A pupil of Bach at Leipzig, he was appointed organist of the church of Our Lady in Dresden in 1742, and musical director of the three principal churches there in 1755.

Works

many cantatas and motets, Messiah (c. 1776), a Passion cantata, Christmas oratorio, several settings of the Passions, a book of 167 hymns; six German arias; organ music.
