Hoover DamHighest concrete dam in the USA, 221 m/726 ft, on the Colorado River at the Arizona–Nevada border. It was begun during the administration of President Herbert Hoover and built 1930–36. Known as Boulder Dam 1933–47, under the administration of Franklin D Roosevelt, its name was restored by President Harry Truman as the reputation of Herbert Hoover was revived. It impounds Lake Mead, and has a hydroelectric power capacity of over 2,000 megawatts. How to thank TFD for its existence?
