Hopkins

City in Hennepin County, southeastern Minnesota, a suburb 11 km/7 mi west of Minneapolis; population (1990) 16,500. It was settled in the 1850s, and became the city of West Minneapolis.

Originally a centre for market gardening, Hopkins is now a residential community with some manufacturing. Local industries produce farm machinery, computer and recycling equipment, and munitions. Food wholesalers are also important.
