Hopkins, Cyril George

Hopkins, Cyril George (1866–1919)

US agronomist. In 1900 at the University of Illinois he classified Illinois soils as to their type, their chemical composition, and methods of management. In 1918 he directed the agriculture rehabilitation programme in Greece at the request of the Red Cross. Among his books are The Story of the Soil, From the Basis of Absolute Science and Real Life 1911 and The Farm That Won't Wear Out 1913.

He was born in Chatfield, Minnesota. After earning a PhD from Cornell in 1898 he studied at the University of Göttingen, Germany.
