Horncastle

Market town in Lincolnshire, England, 27 km/17 mi east of Lincoln; population (2001) 6,350. The chief industries are agriculture, engineering, malting, and canning of local vegetable produce.

The church of St Mary in Horncastle is in part Early English Gothic, and Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School dates from 1562.

A large horse fair was once held here, as described by the novelist George Borrow in Romany Rye 1857.
