Horsehead Nebula

Nebula in the constellation of Orion, near the star Zeta Orionis, and about 1,600 light years from the Sun. Part of the nebula consists of a dark cloud resembling a horse's head silhouetted against the glow of an HII region (a region of hot ionized hydrogen).
