Horsley, Charles Edward (1822–1876)

English pianist, organist, and composer. He studied under his father, William Horsley, and Moscheles, and later with Hauptmann at Cassel and Mendelssohn at Leipzig. In 1845 he returned to London, became organist at St John's Church, Notting Hill, and wrote several works for provincial festivals, etc. In 1862 he went to Australia and in the early 1870s to the USA.

Works oratorios David (1850), Joseph (1853) and Gideon (1860); setting of Milton's ‘Comus’; Ode Euterpe for the opening of Melbourne Town Hall; piano trio.
