Horsley, William (1774-1858)

English organist and composer, and the father of Charles Edward Horsley. He studied music privately, but had some advice from Callcott. He became organist of Ely Chapel, Holborn, in 1794, assisted Callcott as organist at the Asylum for Female Orphans, and succeeded him there in 1802. Later he held several other appointments. He was one of the founders of the Philharmonic Society in 1813. His family were close friends of Mendelssohn.
