Hosokawa, Morishiro (1938- )

Japanese politician. He was elected to the house of councillors in 1971 as a Liberal Democrat and was appointed governor of Kumamoto in 1983. His government's main achievement was to push through reform of the Japanese political system, but he was forced to resign in April 1994 after questions were asked about his political finances.

Born in Tokyo, he was educated at the Sophia University and after graduating took up a career in journalism with the Daily Asahi Shimbun.
