Houghton Lake

Lake in Roscommon County, north-central Michigan, in a state forest area. The largest inland lake in the state, it measures 26 km/16 mi long by 11 km/7 mi wide, and is the source of the Muskegon River. On its southwestern shore lies the unincorporated village of Houghton Lake (population 3,400), a popular vacation resort throughout the year.
