Howard, Ann (1936– )

English mezzo-soprano. After her 1961 debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, she studied further in Paris. From 1964 she has sung widely in Britain and North America as Carmen, Fricka, and Azucena, and in operettas by Johann Strauss and Offenbach. In the 1992 season she sang Orlofsky for the English National Opera Ensemble and the Hostess in Boris Godunov for Opera North. Her Witch in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel has been recorded.
