Howard, Samuel

Howard, Samuel (1710–1782)

English organist and composer. He was a pupil of William Croft at the Chapel Royal and later of Johann Pepusch. He was organist at the churches of St Clement Danes and St Bride. He received a doctorate in music from Cambridge in 1769. He assisted William Boyce in compiling his Cathedral Music (1760–73).

anthems and other church music; pantomimes, The Amorous Goddess, or Harlequin Married and Robin Goodfellow; cantatas and songs.
