Howe, Oscar (1915–1983)| Yankton Sioux painter. He served as art director at the Pierre (South Dakota) Indian School 1953–57 and as professor and artist-in-residence at the University of South Dakota 1957–81. His many exhibitions and illustrated books won numerous awards. In 1960 he was named South Dakota Artist Laureate. |
