The quiet harbour of Howth is a popular resort for the people of Dublin, Ireland. An arm of the harbour stretches out into Dublin Bay north of the city. Behind the harbour's lighthouse is an island called Ireland's Eye.

Resort overlooking Dublin Bay, Republic of Ireland; population (2002) 8,700. Howth was incorporated as part of the city of Dublin in 1942, and lies 13 km/8 mi from its centre. It is situated on a heather-covered peninsula, the Hill of Howth (170 m/560 ft). Howth Castle, built 1654, incorporates some of an earlier building. There are also the well-preserved ruins of a 10th-century abbey.

In the gardens of Howth Castle is a large dolmen (prehistoric stone chamber) known as Aideen's Grave, and a 16th-century tower, Corr Castle. On the summit of the Hill of Howth is a cairn marking the supposed burial ground of Criffan, once the high king of Ireland.
