Hrdy, Sarah Blaffer

Hrdy, Sarah (C) Blaffer (1946– )

US primatologist who made major contributions to studies of the evolution of primate social behaviour, including feminist interpretations of female primate reproductive strategies in evolution and history. She was an instructor in anthropology at the University of Massachusetts in 1973, and was a lecturer and fellow in biology at Harvard 1975–78. She became an associate at Harvard's Peabody Museum in 1979, and joined the University of California, Davis, as a professor in 1984.

She was born in Dallas, Texas.
