Huallaga

River of central Peru; it rises in the Andes, near Cerro de Pascua, and flows generally northeastwards for 1,120 km/696 mi to meet the River Marañon, one of the main headwaters of the Amazon. The upper reaches of the river valley are used for growing coca, a major source of the drug cocaine.
