Hubay, Jenö (originally Eugen Huber) (1858–1937)

Hungarian violinist and composer. He travelled much, edited and completed some of Henri Vieuxtemps' works, and became violin professor at the Brussels Conservatory, Belgium, in 1882 and at the Budapest Conservatory, Hungary, in 1886, of which he was director 1919–34.

A pupil of his father Karl Huber, he appeared as a prodigy at the age of 11, but later went to study with Joseph Joachim in Berlin, Germany.

Alienor (1891), A Cremonai Hegedüs (after Coppée's Luther de Crémone, 1894), A Falu Rossza, Karenina Anna (after Tolstoy, 1915), Az álarc, and others.

Other

four symphonies; four violin concertos; Sonate romantique for violin and piano; many violin pieces, studies.
