Hubli-Dharwad

Conurbation in Karnataka state, southwest India; population (1991) 647,600. Hubli is a centre for the textile industry, and is a major railway junction for Mumbai (formerly Bombay), Bangalore, and Goa. There is also a medical school. Several colleges of the Karnataka State University are located in Dharwar. The two centres are separated by a distance of 20 km/12 mi.
