Hudson, Rock

Hudson, Rock (1925–1985)

US film actor. He was a star from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s, and entered the film industry with no previous acting experience. He specialized in melodrama, often working with director Douglas Sirk, and in romantic comedy, co-starring on three occasions with Doris Day. He enjoyed a successful TV career in the 1970s, starring in the popular series McMillan and Wife 1971–75. His films include Magnificent Obsession (1954), Giant (1956), Written on the Wind (1956), and Pillow Talk (1959).

One of the first known Hollywood actors to die from AIDS-related complications, he is credited with increasing public awareness about the disease.
