Hudson County

Administrative district in northeastern New Jersey; area 119 sq km/46 sq mi, population (1990) 553,100. The county is bounded on the west by the Passaic River and Newark Bay, and on the east by the Hudson River and Upper New York Bay. It has its seat at Jersey City.

Hudson County is New Jersey's smallest and most densely settled county, and is highly industrialized. Containing Bayonne, Hoboken, Union City, and West New York, the county has major ports, as well as important railway and trucking facilities. Oil is refined here, and there is a wide variety of heavy and light industry.
