Huffstodt, Karen (1954– )

US soprano. She sang with the New York City Opera from 1982, as Micaela, Violetta, and Donna Anna, and at Santa Fe in 1984 and 1989 in the first US performances of Henze's We Come to the River and Massenet's Chérubin. She performed with the Chicago Lyric Opera as Fiordiligi and in Washington, DC, in 1986 in the first performance of Menotti's Goya, with Domingo. She has sung Mozart roles in Vienna, Munich, and Cologne; her New York Metropolitan Opera House debut was in 1989, as Violetta. She took the title role in the French version of Salome at Lyon in 1990, and was Odabella in Attila at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1991. In 1993 she opened the season at La Scala as Spontini's Vestale, and in 1994 she sang Sieglinde in Paris at the Théâtre du Châtelet.
