Hughes, Gervase (1905- )

English composer. He studied at Oxford, and in 1926 joined the music staff of the British National Opera Company; he later conducted at various theatres. In 1933 he left the music profession, but after World War II took to composing again. He wrote books on Arthur Sullivan (1960) and Antonín Dvořák (1967).
