Huguet, Jaume

    0.03 sec.

Huguet, Jaume (1420-1490)

Catalan painter. He was a leading artist of the Catalan Gothic School and a painter of altarpieces. Among his works are the retables of St Abdon and St Sennen (1460, Church of San Miguel de Terrasa) and that of The Corporation of St Stephen (1462, part of the predella, Museum of Barcelona).

The wealthy city guilds kept him busily employed on these offerings to the church and his altarpieces were also exported to Sardinia, then under Spanish dominion. Huguet's richly patterned altarpieces are distinct in tranquil, poetic feeling. Other examples include those of St Augustine (six large panels, Barcelona) and of the Constable de Porting (Santa Agueda, Barcelona).
