Human Development Index

Scheme devised by the United Nations in the 1990s as a measure of human well-being. It comprises a social welfare index based upon education/adult literacy, health/life expectancy, and purchasing power of income/economy. Economically more developed countries tend to have the highest human development index (over 0.9). Those that are economically less developed score lowest, (0.25 HDI).
