Human Fertilization and Embryology Act

UK Act of Parliament (1990) that determined the status of a child born as the result of artificial insemination by donor (AID), of the scientific mixing of sperm and eggs in a woman's fallopian tubes (GIFT), and embryo transfer. A licensing authority, the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority, was established, and is responsible for the licensing of persons involved in activities covered by the bill, supervising research carried out on human embryos, and reviewing the resulting information.
