Hump, The

In World War II, name given by Allied pilots to the eastern end of the Himalayan Mountains over which the Allied air supply route from Assam to China passed. The route was about 850 km/530 mi long and crossed 3,650 m/12,000 ft high mountains. It was an arduous journey but it was the only way to get supplies into China after the Japanese cut the Burma Road.
