Hunt, Helen Elizabeth (1963- )

US television, stage, and film actor. Her performance in the popular television sitcom Mad About You (1992-99) launched her to stardom, winning her three consecutive Emmy Awards (1996-98) and two Golden Globe Awards. In 1998 Hunt won an Academy Award for her performance opposite Jack Nicholson in the comedy As Good As It Gets (1997).

Other films include Twister (1996), Cast Away (2000), Pay It Forward (2000), Dr T and the Women (2000), What Women Want (2000), Curse of the Jade Scorpion (2001), and A Good Woman (2004). In 2003 she appeared on stage in Yazmina Reza's play Life (x) 3 in the Circle in the Square Theater in New York, New York.

A screen performer from the age of nine, Hunt featured in television shows such as Swiss Family Robinson (1975-76) and It Takes Two (1982-83), as well as in the films Project X (1987), The Waterdance (1992), and Mr Saturday Night (2002). She made her Broadway debut in 1989, starring in Our Time, and appeared alongside Tracey Ullman and Morgan Freeman in 1990 in Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. In the 1990s she directed episodes of Mad About You, and set up a production company.
