Huntingtower Castle

Ancient monument in Perth and Kinross unitary authority, Scotland, 4 km/2.5 mi north of Perth. As Ruthven Castle, it belonged to the Earls of Gowrie, and was the scene of the ‘Raid of Ruthven’ in 1582, when James VI (later James I of England) was kidnapped as a boy. The castle stands in a largely agricultural area possessing bleachfields founded in 1774 to service local textile industries.
