Huppert, Isabelle (Anne) (1953– )

French actor. She enjoys a deserved reputation for her versatility, seen in such films as La Dentellière/The Lacemaker (1977), Violette Nozière (1978), Heaven's Gate (1980), Coup de Torchon (1981), Madame Bovary (1991), Amateur (1994), and La Cerémonie (1995).

With Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Adjani, and Emmanuelle Béart, Huppert is one of the few French actors to have come to international prominence in the wake of the New Wave. She first caught the eye as a teenager in Bertrand Blier's Les Valseuses/Going Places (1973).
